Technical Refurbishment

Dryer Roll Refurbishment

Dryer roll refurbishment involves more than restoring the hard chrome coating. At PROEXPORT, we assess the entire component: the working surface, journals, bearing seats and the mechanical work required to prepare the roll for further service.

Roller Condition Assessment

We inspect the working surface, roll body, journals, bearing seats and mechanical components.

Journal Repair

Depending on wear, we inspect, repair or replace the journals and bearing contact areas.

Bearing Replacement

Refurbishment may include bearing replacement and inspection of the components responsible for correct roll operation.

Hard Chrome Plating

We restore the working surface by applying a new hard chrome coating in accordance with the agreed scope of work.

Grinding and Polishing

After chrome plating, we perform finishing operations, including grinding, polishing, and, if necessary, honing.

Dynamic balancing

After refurbishment, the roll undergoes quality inspection and dynamic balancing before preparation for installation.

Request a Dryer Roll Refurbishment Assessment

Please send us photos, documentation, or a description of the damage—we will assess the extent to which the item can be restored.

Technical Decision

When Should a Dryer Roll Be Refurbished, and When Is a New Roll the Better Option?

For a worn dryer roll, the key question is whether it is suitable for refurbishment or whether manufacturing a new roll is the safer option. At PROEXPORT, we assess the technical condition first and only then recommend the scope of work.

When is refurbishment the right option?

  • the cylinder body retained the appropriate wall thickness,
  • the working surface can be restored,
  • repair of the journals and bearing seats is technically justified,
  • The scope of work allows the roller to be prepared for continued operation,
  • refurbishment is a reasonable alternative to manufacturing a new component.
Request a Refurbishment Assessment

When is a new roller the better option?

  • The roller is too worn,
  • the roll shell is too thin,
  • the design does not allow a technically viable refurbishment,
  • there is no operating reserve after the repair,
  • a new cylinder is required based on technical documentation or a supplied sample,
  • the customer wants the roll to be reproduced as a new component instead of repairing the worn body.

Not sure which option to choose? Send the documentation, photos or the worn roll. We will assess its condition and advise whether refurbishment or manufacture of a new component is the better option.

Order Process

How Do We Handle Your Order?

The manufacture or refurbishment of a dryer roll starts with an assessment of the documentation, photos or the supplied component. This allows us to propose a scope of work matched to the actual condition of the roll and the requirements of the paper machine.

01

Inquiry Review

Please send the technical documentation, drawings, photos, or basic specifications for the roller.

02

Dryer Roll Assessment

We inspect the working surface, roll body, journals, bearing seats and mechanical components.

03

Scope of work

We present the recommended scope of production or refurbishment and explain the rationale behind it.

04

Manufacturing or refurbishment

We perform the agreed-upon work: chrome plating, machining, mechanical repairs, polishing, or honing.

05

Inspection and Balancing

Once the work is complete, the roller undergoes a quality inspection and dynamic balancing.

06

Transport Protection

We prepare the finished roll for shipment based on its dimensions, weight, and shipping requirements.

Submit a technical inquiry

A drawing, photos, or basic specifications of the roller are sufficient to prepare a preliminary assessment.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Dryer Rolls

When ordering a new roller or planning a refurbishment, the most common questions concern documentation, the scope of work, tolerances, chrome plating, and preparing the component for shipping. Below, we’ve compiled the most important points to clarify before sending an inquiry.

What Are Dryer Rolls?
Dryer rolls are cylinders used in paper machines to dry and guide the paper web. At PROEXPORT, we manufacture new chrome-plated dryer rolls and refurbish worn paper machine dryer cylinders.
Do You Manufacture New Dryer Rolls?
Yes. We manufacture new dryer rolls in accordance with the customer’s technical documentation. We can also produce a replacement based on a supplied sample.
Can Every Dryer Roll Be Refurbished?
No. Refurbishment feasibility depends on the condition of the roll body, wall thickness, journal wear and extent of damage. If refurbishment is not technically justified, we recommend manufacturing a new roll.
What information is needed to prepare a quote?
It is best to send technical documentation, a drawing, photos of the roll or the worn cylinder itself. Based on this information, we will assess whether we can manufacture a new roll, refurbish the existing one or produce a replacement.
What sizes of rollers do you manufacture?
We manufacture rolls with diameters up to 600 mm, lengths up to 6,000 mm, and weights up to 2,500 kg. We verify each order based on the customer’s technical documentation.
Do You Offer Hard Chrome Plating?
Yes. We hard chrome plate external and internal surfaces. After plating, we can grind, polish and hone the working surface.
Do you manufacture rollers with heating chambers?
Yes. Depending on the project, we can manufacture rollers with internal heating chambers. We determine the scope of work based on the technical documentation.
Do you only restore the chrome plating?
No. Refurbishment may also include journal repair, bearing replacement, inspection of bearing seats, application of a paint coating, dynamic balancing and preparation of the roll for installation.
Can you reproduce the roller without technical documentation?
In many cases, yes. If the customer has a worn-out roller, we can use it as a template for analyzing and manufacturing a replacement. The final outcome depends on the condition and completeness of the part provided.
Do you perform dynamic balancing?
Yes. After manufacturing or refurbishment, the rolls undergo dynamic balancing and quality inspection before shipment.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. We supply dryer rolls to customers in Poland and abroad. We prepare each component for transport according to its weight, length and delivery requirements.
How do I get started?
Please submit technical documentation, photos, or basic information about the roller. After reviewing the information, we will present our recommended scope of work and prepare a quote.

Why Choose PROEXPORT for Your Dryer Roll?

For dryer rolls, the quality of the hard chrome coating is only one consideration. The entire component matters: the body, journals, bearings, runout, balancing and preparation for installation. That is why PROEXPORT manages the agreed scope of work as one process rather than a series of separate manufacturing operations.

A single contractor for the scope of work

The customer does not need to arrange for chrome plating, journal repairs, bearing replacements, balancing, and transportation separately.

New Rolls and Refurbishment

We can manufacture a new drying cylinder or refurbish an existing cylinder, provided its technical condition allows it.

Pre-Quotation Assessment

We first assess the documentation, photos or the roll itself and only then propose the scope of manufacture or refurbishment.

Workmanship Accuracy

We manufacture rollers in accordance with the customer's specifications. In confirmed projects, the runout achieved was up to 0.02 mm.

Domestic and International Shipments

We prepare the rolls for transport based on their dimensions, weight, and delivery requirements.
